Osu. I am now in Goestling, Austria for IKO Camp organized by Austria Branch Chief Sensei Bekim Neziri. It is a charming village town about 300km from Vienna, high in the mountains.
Last week, I was in Japan for the All Japan Open, where one of our All American Open favorite fighters from Spain, Alejandro Navarro took the Championship title; congratulations, Osu! Then we headed to the mountains for IKO annual Mitsumine Training Camp & Promotion Test which was followed by the first ever, IKO Intensive Training Course back in Ebisu Dojo in Tokyo. It was a great opportunity specifically for senior-ranking IKO Black Belts to fine-tune their curriculum at Honbu. You can read the report on Honbu’s website at: http://www.kyokushinkaikan.org/en/news/2012/11/mitsumine-training-camp-and-intensive-course-in-japan.html
In late October, I traveled to Moscow and North Carolina, and we had our Halloween Class at the NJ Dojo and our Fall Goodwill Tournament in Manhattan.
The next day, our area was hit by Hurricane Sandy.
It was a massive super-storm that brought tidal waves, flooding and fires. Homes and businesses were destroyed, and sadly, many people were killed. Downtown was flooded and the NY and NJ area Dojos were without electricity and closed down for a week. Some students were seriously affected and had to evacuate their homes. Some are still unable to return. The city is recovering slowly and everyone is pitching in to help as best we can.
KKNY is working with the NYCares organization and set up a “Coat Drive” to collect and provide winter coats for those who lost everything in the storm. It’s getting very cold now. If you can, please donate your clean, gently-used children’s and adults coats to the NYC or NJ Dojos as soon as possible.
You can also donate funds all year long to NYCares at: http://www.nycares.org/
Thank you for your support, Osu!
